Unwanted phones in theatres

How often to you go to the theatre, or somewhere, where the use of phones is prohibited and see people using them, unchallenged?

This week, I went to the theatre and noticed the person in front of me using her phone the whole time. During the first half it was off putting and I found myself diverted from the play, which included a running text screen, above the actors. I even leaned over at one time to see what she was doing.

What would you have done? As soon as the lights came up for the interval I leaned over, tapped her on the shoulder and said, is whatever your are doing important? You are distracting from the play and all I can see is a big white light. Her response was she was French and she was making notes, so as to look back later.  Once I had this response I went to the Access Host and informed him about it. He said he would get the Usher to come in the second half and to watch, as it shouldn’t be happening.

Just before the play restarted the Usher came and spoke to the woman, I couldn’t here what she said but the woman turned round to me and said I told you I wouldn’t use it again – she hadn’t said that but I felt a small victory and I could enjoy the second in peace – thankfully.

I can’t help but think the Usher must have seen her doing it in the first half but she didn’t want to say anything, thankfully due to the Access Host.  The only way she wouldn’t have seen it, is if she was blind, in which case she is in the wrong job.
