Never go back

People say never go back, but I don’t believe that is true.

It is like anything, sometimes you go back to something and it is not like you remember at all, in a bad way.

I remember taking my husband to Glasson Dock, near Lancaster, which I remembered it with gift shops and a pub. It was quaint, in my childhood memories. When we arrived a few years ago it looked like – a dock! My childhood memories ruined.

However, this week we went back to somewhere we had mixed memories of and we were very pleasantly surprised.

We were in London, we had time to kill, needed something to eat, pre- theatre. We decided to go to The Strand Palace Hotel. We had stayed there twice before, but hadn’t been back since our last stay, which said it all really. The first stay was great, it was a place to stay, we were literally just sleeping there.  We had been to a big party and quiz night and won a massive basket of fruit and bottles of wine – so it had good memories. We had a comfortable bed and a good breakfast, what more could you want.

The second time, we had an awful room, it was dark and dingy, there was building work going on. We slept OK, after a night at the theatre, but next morning breakfast was a shambles and we had never went back.

This week we went back to The Strand Palace, it certainly has had a refurbishment. The bar and restaurant were excellent. Food, drink and service were first class and we will definitely go back.

We might even stay overnight next time. It was worth going back…………this time.
