If you can’t say anything nice

An actor friend of mine told me his mother always said, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

I think some people need to take notice of that these days.

As I am sure you have realised my husband uses a wheelchair, that in itself poses some issues in going out. A great deal of planning is needed, that is before we even consider that fact he has Parkinson’s and that raises other issues.

Did your parents ever teach you it is rude to stare? Well this is another thing people need to take heed of.

We went out the other night, it was to a Restaurant but just for Cocktails and Nibbles. The venue is small, there was a singer and about 20 or so customers. It should have been a pleasant evening.

One person just kept staring at us all the time. Dave had to take his walker, rather than his wheelchair, but there was no need to stare at us. This constant staring made us feel uncomfortable so much so we left early and I still feel unsettled about it today.

There is no need to stare if something is a bit different and remember if you can be anything – be kind.
