What do you expect?

When you book a room what do you expect?

Do you expect the rooms to all be pretty similar in size and furniture?

Rooms vary between hotels so much, we have stayed in a tiny room in London, not much bigger than a broom cupboard but in the same hotel chain less than a mile away, the rooms were really large. In the first room, my husband could only sleep on one side of the bed as he is tall and he couldn’t even walk to get into the other side.

It is the same with any sort of room. We have had Accessible Rooms where you can get a wheelchair in the room and the bathroom but you can’t get around or across the room and even watching TV is difficult. Other Accessible rooms are just massive the bathroom is the size of a normal room, which is just what a wheelchair user needs.

What makes a suite, in some hotels the room is just larger, in others you have a separate living area? Personally, I think if it doesn’t have a separate living area it is just an overgrown room.

My husband always used to take the brochure on holiday, to make sure he got what he booked.  This was before the internet!

When you book I suggest you keep a screen-shot of the type of room that you have booked as often you don’t get it. I would say we are savvy travellers but on more than one occasion I have felt that we are being fobbed off with a lower standard and when I show the website it is amazing how I get a better room or something to make up for the fact their advertising is misleading.
