Don’t believe all reviews

Well what a few days and how something you expect to be excellent, turns out not as expected.

We went to the theatre at Milton Keynes to see And Then There Were None, having been to this theatre before and using a wheelchair space we didn’t anticipate any issues – how wrong could you be!

When we arrived at our seats, we could see the wheelchair would be an issue. You could drive right into the space but no-one had thought how you would get out. After attempting a 24 point turn I had to drag Dave out in the wheelchair, which was no mean feat. Who thought it was a good idea to put a set of stairs behind the wheelchair space and how on earth does a wheelchair user get out, in case of emergency.

Let’s just say – never again.

The next night we were due to see “The Unfriend” at Wyndham’s (Theatre), in London, not only had we not been to Wyndham’s before we hadn’t ever been in the theatre. I was just checking out where the seats were, when I found a review giving the theatre 0.5 out of 5 for their Access Seats. This review had me worried and I contacted the theatre but they assured me that they knew we had a motorised wheelchair and they checked the measurements with me.

We got to the theatre and we entered by a small door, where a platform comes up for the wheelchair. It moves it down about 4 steps and that is your area to sit. It was a small box with room for 4 people and a toilet that only people in the box can access. Drinks were brought to us and a programme was also brought.

The Access Host was excellent checking in on us before the show and at the interval.  It is a great little box, we had a great view from the back of the stalls and the play was the best comedy we have ever seen.

So I would say, beware of reviews and make your own checks before making a decision.
