Do you remember when you went in a bar or a foyer and there was seating?
Recently, I find most places have no seats and standing room and tall tablets to stand at, I personally find these really inconvenient and useless. My husband is in a wheelchair and therefore if I use these. I am up high and he is down low, I have to pass his drink up and down.
The first place I noticed this was at the London Palladium, we paid for Hospitality and we asked if there would be seating, as at the time my husband walked with two sticks. We were told there was. When we arrived the few seats there were were taking, there were people sitting on the stairs and there was no where for us to sit. There were just high round tables, to put a drink or small plate on when you were standing round chatting. Eventually, two other guests offered us seats, my seat was a high one, where I was on a level with the tall table and my husband’s was a low seat – we had seats but looked ridiculous. I had to get up and down to pass him food and his drink.
More recently, I was at the Barbican Theatre, in London, on the Ground Floor, The area is massive but there is hardly any seating. There are a few sofas, which some people lie on and a few tall tables where you can stand with drinks.
Did this start during the pandemic and now it is just an excuse or did it start before? Either way we should make a stand, no pun intended, and start to avoid these sort of places.
