Do you get it in writing?

If you have read my blogs before you will realise that if there is something to complain about I have no fear in complaining. However, if there is something to praise I will also gave praise – my latest praise went to Dylan from Ocado who went above and beyond when he delivered our food and my husband, who is disabled there for the delivery. I emailed Ocado to sing Dylan’s praises and they advised they would pass it to his manager and said how lovely it was to get such an email, as they deal mainly with complaints.

Sometimes when you complain you are offered something as a goodwill gesture but how do you ensure you understand and receive it? Do you ask for it in writing?

I was recently offered a discount and some treats when I next visited a Spa Hotel. However, booking with the discount is proving virtually impossible. I have resorted to leaving a message for the manager who agreed this to call me and sort it out but it shouldn’t be so difficult.

In one of my latest hotel stay we didn’t book with breakfast included but the restaurant told us to go to breakfast, as it was included in our room. On the 2nd day I realised we had been charged over £100 for breakfast. Thankfully I noticed and that we had been overcharged – remember always check your bill. Apparently the head waitress hadn’t said the breakfast was included but had told my husband he should go for breakfast, as if he didn’t go down for breakfast he wouldn’t get to see her – a bit arrogant if you ask me! We might have known we were being charged if we had been asked to sign for breakfast or been told on check in how much breakfast was.

So do we need a note from everyone to confirm what they are offering?
