Do you ever go to two events that you think are going to be similar and find they are nothing like it other?
I recently when to two Book Events, I expected both to be very similar, in fact I had been more excited by the prospect of the second event than the first one. How wrong could I be?
The first one was in a small church in Central London. There was no book release, it was a Celebration of a series of books and it was hoped the author would be the special guest. There was a glass of fizz, a charity raffle, with some amazing prizes, a quiz, some book readings and a signing, everyone was very friendly. It was a wonderful, unforgettable evening.
The next Event I had high hopes for, again it was a church in Central London, but when I arrived there were more waiting to go in than there had been at the previous Event. However, I was excited as I had pre-ordered the book, that was released that day and I would be able to get it signed. On arriving, there were no books for those who had pre-ordered. There were books to buy and get signed but none for those who had pre-paid. There was nothing to get signed. The sound in the Venue was not great, some people couldn’t hear the authors and the authors could not hear the Q&A.
I think I must remember to treat everything I go to as a new and unique experience and note to self – don’t go to the second venue again.
