The British Pub is under threat with more and more closing every month. I feel sorry for these pubs but there will be some survivors, as they strive to be different and attract customers in all sorts of way.
I have not been a big pub visitor over the last 15 years, not that I had a regular before that, but I had worked in pubs, as a second job. I also had pubs I would visit if I was in the area, a couple in London we frequented. One has now closed, I think it was a victim of a redesign of the area and the other is not wheelchair friendly. We have no pub local to us really, we occasionally walked to a local, which was over a mile away, but the variation in clientèle and staff stopped us from going.
Recently we have visited a pub a few times, with my 90 year old mother-in-law. It has been for a meal out mainly but it has been enjoyable. This pub is in a village, it has regular locals, it has a good food meal, a separate area for large parties and I would think it is doing good business. It makes me think we should give some other pubs a try, perhaps ones near places we go regularly and take a risk on trying out somewhere new.
The British Pub is something tourist love to visit so let’s try and give the ones we like some support.
