It is a well known facts that Theatre Bars charge high prices, presumably as they have a captive audience and you either drink what they sell or you go thirsty.
The places I recall where I have been charged the most are a theatre in New York, where I paid $30 for a small wine, in a reusable cup! If I had my time back again I would have asked the costs before ordering. The other place was the o2 Arena, in Greenwich, many years ago. It was a Disney show and due to the price of drinks I thought I wouldn’t have my normal white wine. I ordered two Diet Cokes and it came to £15, they were two mixer cans, no glass, no straw – literally two cans.
I know there is a Climate Crisis and we no longer use plastic cups or straws, but recently bearing in mind the price of theatre drinks the presentation and delivery of them is shocking.
I recently pre-ordered two drinks to be delivered to me in my theatre seat. Bearing in mind we were seated in the wheelchair area, they arrived what I would consider inappropriately. My Cocktail was just in a can. For years we have been advised not to drink from cans, as a rat or mouse could have peed on them – however, now it appears we can pay over £8 for a Cocktail and have to drink it from the can. The other drink was a J2O, which just came in a bottle, which was totally unsuitable for someone in a wheelchair, with one working arm, that had a tremor, due to Parkinson’s.
I did manage to go to the bar, that was the whole point in arranging a delivery, to get a cup and a straw but is this what we have come to now, paying over the odds for a product just in the condition it was delivered! It is daylight robbery to a captive audience.
And, the straw did not go to the bottom of the bottle of J2O!.
