How often do you have a drink from the bar at the theatre?
If you don’t have a drink, is it due to the price of the drinks. A glass of wine was about £10, when I last bought one, which is a lot, but I guess in London you pay more. Soft drinks are also very expensive, but shows are long and theatres are warm, so there are not many people who sit through a show without having a drink.
How many of you have noticed a big change this year? Some theatres are only selling bottles of wine, in some areas. This summer I visited Regent’s Park Open Air theatre, we had food from The Grill, but you could have a soft drink, but wine was only available by the bottle. If you wanted a glass of wine you had to queue at the bar, so you can’t actually have your food and drink together.
More recently we went to the Kit Kat Club, to see Cabaret. The bars are difficult to Access, if you are disabled. However, they have an App you can use for drinks brought to the seats. Again, there are soft drinks, bottles of wine or champagne but no other drinks. The smallest bottle available is a half bottle of champagne but wine is only available in full bottles.
I wonder if this will catch on at other theatres and if this really results in people drinking more, as it has only resulted in me drinking less.
