Are we in or out?

Have you ever belonged to a Club? A Theatre Club, or any sort of Club for that matter, and you pay an annual fee?

I am sure many of us have been members of something and some of us have noted what we should be receiving for our Membership.

What do you do when you aren’t getting what you pay for? Do you complain or do your cancel?

In the last two years I belonged to two different theatre clubs.

One offered all sorts of discounts, parties, events etc. In the first three months, I was invited to one party as a show was opening at one of the theatres. The other theatre didn’t have any shows I fancied or any events, so when the main show announced and extension it was clear to me there would be no future events. I wrote and asked what I was receiving for my Membership, as I didn’t want to see the same show over and over. I was offered a refund, which I was happy to accept and incidentally the theatre never had any other events. I wonder if they would have offered me anything if I hadn’t enquired early in my membership.

More recently, I had a Membership renewed, only to find they are removing one of the two perks of having it, the other one I would never use anyway. Fortunately, you can cancel within 30 days of renewal, so I have once again emailed to cancel. I wonder how many other people have this Membership and didn’t notice a change.

It’s always worth checking what you get for your Membership and if you are actually still getting it. Or are you someone who just paying subscriptions without using them or even knowing what they cover?
