We have always been the sort of people, who get Black Cabs in London, as you know they are taxed and insured, you can book one on an APP and flag on down on the street.
Overseas we have used what we consider to be Black Cabs or used APPS like Curb and Free Now.
We have never used an Uber. Having had a bad experience in London, with a friend when she used Uber. I know many of our friends say, get a Uber, but we haven’t.
If you get a bad Taxi driver do you complain? We used Curb the whole time in USA and all the drivers were great, except one of them. This driver was disgusting – he picked us up and tried to charge us, when we had already paid on the Curb APP – nice try! He drove like a madman and had his window down all the time, spitting out at the other cars – ugh.
When we got to our destination I could see it over the road, but said nothing. It was a 10 lane road but there are crossings. He then did a strange manoeuvre and said that it was illegal to do that, but if he got a fine he would pass it on to us.
When we arrived at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, we wanted to get a Curb cab, but there is no signal on the phone there. We saw lots of cabs, but they were cars mainly too small to fit our luggage and a wheelchair. There were also Uber drivers. The taxi Marshall was directing us to an Uber, which I didn’t want to use, but he didn’t care. One cab thought he could fit us in and then said no. The Uber driver then said, come to me $200 plus a tip, I said no and the Curb driver saw red and picked up the wheelchair and started loading his car. We managed to get in and it cost $160 including a tip – he said he could tell the other guys were trying to rip us off.
Something should be done about people like the spitting driver and the Cabs at the Cruise terminal but I feel it is just a tourist trap you can do nothing about.
What do you think?

I don’t think this is very surprising and it’s happening everywhere. If you are a captive audience and have absolutely no choice then you can be charged a huge amount …. Take the price of a glass of wine in some theatres, it’s criminal. Also if you only have the choice of the taxis that are there then they will be able to overcharge and not care about their service. I suppose it’s a case of take it or leave it, it’s not right but what can you do?
