Getting to the Airport

How do you feel about airport parking?

Do you get a lift to the airport or get public transport?

Do you book parking in a long stay car park?

These days you have to consider everything. At Heathrow there is a £5 drop off charge and it is payable by all. We recently drove through that part, by mistake, looking for a hotel, so I spent an hour on the phone to find out if vehicles registered for the disabled have to pay. The answer was yes, unless we registered and sent some evidence, neither of which you might have with you if you are just dropping off. However, we didn’t stop and drop off. We got in there by mistake, it was either drive by there or in the bus-lane – the £5 charge seemed better – we have seen people reverse out at the stage, but personally I wouldn’t recommend that. Anyway, in the end, we had been registered as a drive by and had no charge to pay.

Public transport can be a great option, but not if you are disabled and have 5 bags!

In the same way long stay car parking is not really an option.

We choose to stay at a hotel the night before and leave our car there, it is a bit expensive but a much easier option. The hotel is the Crowne Plaza T4. They can book a cab to the airport, but I would suggest booking your own and being there earlier to get it, or someone else might. I wouldn’t suggest getting in a cab booked by someone else. We booked one, but hadn’t paid, it was going to be £45 for less than 2 miles, due to having to fit in two people lots of luggage and a wheelchair. I bet the people who took it as theirs had a shock – Karma!
