I always thought that Americans are a bit obsessed with old films and that British people tend to favour new films. When you watch a film you always see Americans, young or old, watching old films, you would never see that in a British film.
We have always loved Musicals but never thought we much cared for old American Musicals. It is not the subject that is the problem, I think for me it is the fact they lend themselves more to the screen with lots of dance routines and the settings that they have and for that reason we have favoured more modern musicals.
Over the last few Christmas’s, we have started to go and see White Christmas The Musical, as an annual event. I think this is the first year we have not seen it for years. We have never seen the film but recorded it on TiVo, so will get around to it before next Christmas.
Now we have been to see The King and I and we both loved it. I had seen it in London a few years ago.
I think it is time we looked at older musicals differently. Maybe it is time to give the old shows a chance. Sometimes we don’t like new shows, so surely the old ones are worth a try.
In fact, Dave hated the film Moulin Rouge but I dragged him along to see the show and he loved it. We have been twice now.
My advice, never say never…………….
