We often go to the theatre and it seems that audience members using their phone/iPads in the theatre is more and more prevalent these days. It was always an issue but since the pandemic it has become a major issue.
You have people recording the show and taking photos throughout the shows. The theatres reaction to this differ a lot, from ignoring it, waving for people to stop, request the device from the person and in some cases getting them to delete the photos/videos.
How do you feel about this? What action do you think should be taken against people?
Personally I think it is rude to audience members and the cast.
The other thing with phones, is people having their phone ringing during the show. That is annoying and more annoying that the ringing are the people who then choose to answer it.
We were once watching Phantom of The Opera when the person next to us, answered the phone, just when Phantom was in the Angel and singing. Not only did he answer but he stood up to leave carrying on the conversation up the centre aisle of the stalls and out of theatre. When he had finished his call the theatre let him back in! He texted all through the show and we were the ones who left in the interval, as the show had been totally ruined for us. I heard Japanese theatres have theatres blocked from receiving phone signals, if that is the case may be we should start doing the same.
What do you think?
