Service Charge – what do you think of this? Is it an American way of life we have now adopted?
Should there be Service Charge on restaurant bills, or should it be based on the type of restaurant?
How much do you think the charge should be? It used to be 10%, now it is 10%, 12.5% and sometimes even 15%.
Do you check it is going to those who serve you? I know some large companies do not pass on the the money but keep it as profit! Other companies share it between all staff members.
What do you think of Hotels adding a Service Charge? I recently booked a Hotel but a change in plans meant I cancelled it but on booking there was a note saying a Service Charge of 15% would be added to the total bill on check out. I think that is a bit cheeky to be honest.
Personally, I like to tip for good service but I don’t want to be forced into doing it.
